Passenger vehicle market at 1.2 million was 18% up from last year, while Light Commercial Vehicles segment at 434.000 units was down 2% from the same month last year. Total year to date sale in April were 6.363000, flat on last year.
In spite of a positive April, the car market in China is flat from last year projecting a full year 2012 volume around 18.5 millions. The Chinese Government is working to introduce incentives able to sustain the market and increase the year volume at 20 million. The new incentives should be introduced next month and will be focalized on supporting the development of car market in the rural areas, where the industry is yet underdeveloped.
In April, the car passenger market leader, Volkswagen, achieved the all time record share at 15.0% up 0.6 points from year to date April or 1.4 from full year 2011. The sales volume was 180.392.
Nissan was the second with 73.117 sales, in spite share dropped at 6.1% from 6.9% in March. The third was Toyota with 1.000 units less and with a share declined at 6.0% from the peak of 7.0% posted last February.
Hyundai was 4th, few units down, with a share of 6.0%.
April was very negative for Chevrolet, with the share dropped at 3.8% from the 5.5% done in January, and for Chery, the first domestic brand, dropped at 3.4%, down 0.6 points from March.
Ford posted a great performance, with 34.624 sales and a share of 2.9%, up 0.7 from previous month.

In the LCV segment, Wuling sold 118.287 units with a share of 27.2%, up 0.7 points from year to date. Chana is the second in the year to date with 233.133 sales and 13.0% share, while in the month it was 4th with 10.2% share, down 4.1 points from March.

Looking at the best selling models, the Chinese market confirm its uniqueness, with a very low sales concentration and hundreds models offered.
The year to date market leader was the Buick Excelle, with 99.557 and 2.2% market share, followed by the Volkswagen Passat with 90.107 units and 2.0% share and Chevrolet Sail with 82.111 sales and 1.8% share.
In April other two Volkswagen performed well: the Lavida was 4th with 20.000 units and the Jetta was 2nd with 21.909 units.
