French Vehicles Market in 2016 was moderately positive for the third year in a row, at the best since 2011 ranking as World’s 8th market. French brands dominate while Infiniti and Jaguar jumped up.

Market Outlook

Growth in fixed investment and a positive contribution of inventories more than offset a disappointing performance from the external sector and stagnant private consumption. The latest data suggest that growth will pick up slightly in the last quarter of the year. Industrial production contracted in October while business confidence and the manufacturing PMI soared in December.

According to data released by the C.C.F.A, the French Associations of Car Manufacturers, new car passenger’s sales in December had been 197.327, up 5.8%.

In 2016, the French new cars market posted one of the highest ever volumes with 2.015.132 units (+5.1%). The registrations outpaced for the first time the 2 million units since 2011, showing a steady monthly sales trend with only two moderate deceleration.

While considering the light commercial vehicles, the market reported 398.480 units (+5.5%), with over 20.000 additional sales compared to 2015, with a total light vehicles figures over the 2.6 million units, the 8th highest in the World.

Competitive Arena

In 2016 Renault won the competition posting almost 408.000 units (+6.6%), while among the highest growths of the year there were Honda, Mazda, Land Rover, Hyundai, Kia and Fiat. The best performances were reported by Infiniti (+189.3%) and Jaguar (+144.3%).

Mitsubishi hit the sharpest slowdown, losing 25.8%, followed by other less remarkable losses recorded by DS, Nissan, Citroen, and Ford.

At model wise, the Renault Clio was the leader with 112.152 sales (+3.5%)  followed by the Peugeot 208 with 97.830 units (+8.3%) and the Peugeot 308 with 75.509.

The Dacia Sandero and Renault Kadjar shined improving respectively 24.2% at 56.199 units and 81.0% at 38.145 sales.
