Sourcing local Minister of Transportation or deputy agencies, we collect new light vehicles registrations, country by country, brand by brand, in 159 markets worldwide. Extracting data for our Global Auto Database we are able to report on this ranking as several others.
Considering cumulative data up to April 2025, Toyota was still the best selling brand. Gaining 4.1% year-on-year, the Japanese giant retained its decade-long leadership in the market, securing a 10.6% share of all global sales.
Volkswagen ranked in 2nd, growing 2.7% and with a 5.6% share of the global market.
Ford -up 1 spot- ranked 3rd, achieving a share of 4.4% despite only growing 0.8%.
Hyundai –up 1 spot- ranked 4th while securing a 4.2% share (+0%), followed by Honda in 5th with a 4.1% share (-6.2%) and Nissan in 6th (-3.9%).
Kia -up 1 spot- ranked in 7th (+6.4%), followed by BYD -up 1 spot- in 8th (+13.1%), and Chevrolet -down 2 spots- in 9th (-2.8%). BMW -up 1 spot- closed the Top 10 (-3%).
Notably, Geely climbed 8 spots into 12th while reporting impressive growth of 82.5%.
