Hungarian Auto Market falls down for the 4th year in a row. In 2023 sales at 107.802 (-2.9%) were near 50k below the record posted in 2019. Toyota brand overtook Suzuki taking the leadership.

Market Trend and Outlook

The Hungarian auto market in 2023 fell 2.9%, with figures at 107,802. This downfall is reflected on December which fell 0.3%, after being up the last two months, and totalling 7,986 sales.

Looking at cumulative data up to December 2023 brand-wise, Toyota gains leadership with 14,223 sales (+7.2%) followed closely by the runner up Suzuki -up 1 spot- with 12,167 units sold (-12.2%).

In 3rd place ranks Skoda -up 3 spots- with 10,196 sales (+57.8%), in front of Volkswagen -down 1 spot- at 8,803 (-14.6%), Kia at 6,590 (-19.0%) and Ford -down 2 spots-at 5,950 sales (-30.1%).

BMW rises 2 spots into 7th position with 5,244 sales (+9.6%), followed by Mercedes at 4,626 sales (-19.6%), Dacia -down 2 spots- at 4,186 (-31.6%) and Opel closing the Top 10 with 3,799 new car registrations (-10.2%).

Looking at specific models the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross becomes the new best seller, although being down 17.4% in year-on-year sales and 5 spots in the rankings, followed by previous year’s leader the Skoda Octavia, up 73.2%.
