Economic Environment

In 2025, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s economic growth is forecast at around 2.0%, reflecting a slowdown in the first half of the year but a mild recovery expected in the second half. Real GDP growth reached 1.8% year-on-year in the first half, constrained by weak domestic consumption, lower investment, political uncertainty, and a negative contribution from net exports. Signs of recovery emerged from the second quarter onward, with improving retail trade, stronger export dynamics, and renewed growth in manufacturing, trade, and resilient service sectors such as IT, transport, and tourism.

Inflation re-emerged as a key challenge, averaging an estimated 3.9% in 2025, driven mainly by higher food, services, and energy prices, while the labour market remained relatively stable despite structural weaknesses and declining labour force participation. Looking ahead, growth is expected to gradually accelerate to about 3% in 2026–2027, supported by wage growth, services expansion, and the successful implementation of the Reform Agenda and the EU-backed Growth Plan.
