Colombia 2021. Market Gains 32.8%, While Chevrolet Reports The Slowest Growth In The Leaderboard

Colombia’s Auto market in 2021 rises by 32.8% with 250,497 sales, reporting a very strong performance all year. Hyundai reported the best performance by rising in triple-digits, while Chevrolet gained only 2.5%.

Colombia’s car market this year attempted to recover from the pandemic crash of 2020 and reported a very promising performance all year long.

After a positive period ended in 2014 with a peak of  316.482 units, the vehicle market started a decline with sales dropped down at 245k in 2016. Moreover, in 2017 the market registered the lowest peak in this decade.

Finally, in 2018 the market was able to change direction and to post a positive score, with 256,662 sales, up 7.9%, while in 2019 total sales have been 263,684 (+2.7%).

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, full-Year sales for 2020 have been 188,665, reporting a decline of 28.5% compared to 2019.

In 2021 the year started positively for the Colombian market, in fact, in Q1 56,971 units have been sold, reporting a 11.1% increase in sales compared to Q1 2020, while in Q2 sales started growing quickly, reporting a 156.5% increase in sales with 54,198 units due to the low volumes in Q2 2020.

In Q3 sales kept growing quickly, gaining 45.3% sales with 67,063 units, and then slowed down in Q4 with 72,265 units, gaining only 3.1%.

Indeed, Full-Year sales for 2021 have been 250,497, reporting a 32.8% increase compared to 2020.

Brand-wise, this year the leader Renault (+20.5%) lost 2.5% market share, followed by Chevrolet (+2.5%), which lost 4.5% share. Mazda on the other hand gained 0.8% share, gaining 48.8%.  Nissan rose 42.4%, followed by Toyota which gained 53.4%.

Kia fell 1 spot and rose 41.9%, followed by Suzuki (+95.7%) and Volkswagen (down 1 spot) which gained 46% sales. Closing the leaderboard we have Ford gaining just 15% this year and Hyundai registering the best performance by gaining 119.7%.

The most sold model in the country is the Mazda CX-30 with 11,214 sales (-+99.2%), holding 4.6% market share.
