Best Selling Auto Brands Ranking in 2024 confirmed Toyota leadership despite sales slowdown. BYD was the real winner with global sales booming 41% and a jump of 6 place in the ranking, landing in third.

Sourcing local Minister of Transportation or deputy agencies, we collect new light vehicles registrations, country by country, brand by brand, in 159 markets worldwide. Extracting data for our Global Auto Database we are able to report on this ranking as several others.
Considering full-year data for 2024, Toyota was still the best selling brand, with 9,09 million vehicles sold. Despite losing 0.7% year-on-year, the Japanese giant maintained its decade-long leadership in the market, securing a 10.7% share of all global sales.
Volkswagen ranked in 2nd, with 4,93 million units sold and a 5.8% share of the global market (+0%).
In third place BYD moved up 6 spots and totaled 3,80 million units sold, achieving a market share of 4.5% and growing 41.6%, the most robust performance among Top 10 Brands. BYD is an EV specialist still selling ICE vehicles (representing over the half of company sales). In 2019 BYD ranking was the 49th in the world!
In fourth place Honda -down 1 spot- sold 3,74 million vehicles (-3.1%), followed by Ford -down 2 spots- with 3,69 million sales (-0.9%) and Hyundai -down 1 spot- at 3,69 million (-3.7%).
Nissan -up 1 spot- ranked in 7th with 3,13 million (+0.1%), followed by Chevrolet -down 1 spot- with 3,03 million units sold (-2.9%), and Kia -down 1 spot- with 2,91 million sales (-1.9%). Closing the top 10, Mercedes -up 1 spot- which reported 2,18 million new registrations (+1.5%).
