German Cars Market recovered moderately in 2023. Following the previous  years decline, in 2023 sales increased at 2.83 million (+7.4%), less than expected due to unfavorable economic environment.

Market Trend and Outlook

The German auto market in 2023 registered a total of 2.83 million sales (+7.4%). The month of December continues a downwards trend following 3 negative months with a total of only 240,979 sales (-22.6%).

Looking at cumulative data from 2023 brand-wise, Volkswagen sold the most cars at 519,089 (+7.9%), followed by Mercedes at 277,352 (+13.7%) in front of Audi at 246,880 (+15.7%) and BMW with 233,160 sales (+11.2%).

Skoda gains 1 spot and ranks in 5th position with 168,561 sales (+17.1%), followed by Opel -down 1 spot- at 144,901 sales (+0.2%), Ford at 116,578 (-11.2%) and Hyundai with 105,033 new registrations (+0.0%)

Seat jumps 5 spots into 9th position with 85,082 sales (+28.1%), followed by Fiat  -up 1 spots- closing the top 10 with 76,535 new registrations (-1.6%).

Looking at specific models the Volkswagen Golf is the best seller despite losing 3.8% in year-on-year sales, followed by the Volkswagen T-Roc up 16.5% from the previous year.
