Mauritius Vehicles Market in 2016 hit the best performance ever, showing a stunning sales recovery during the second semester. Mitsubishi shined.

Market Outlook

According to The Economist, the economic growth in 2017-21 will be affected by continued uncertainty in global financial markets, including over UK’s vote to leave the EU. With growth slowing in China and the US experiencing a recession in 2019, the GDP growth rate will likely stay below 4% in 2017-21.

Following fifteen months in row of sales decline, the vehicles market took flight from the second half of the 2016 with a double digit improvement. It was the best performance ever with 9.185 units (+8.9%), reporting 83 sales units more than the previous record established in 2014.

According with data release from the local Authority for Transportation, in December the domestic vehicles passengers had been 934 (+32.9%), hitting the 6th y.o.y. growth in a row.

Competitive Arena

The brand leader in 2016 was Nissan with 1.617 units (+14.1%) ahead of Toyota with 1.397 sales (-13.0%) and Hyundai with 846 (+7.4%). Among the highest growths were reported for Perodua, Mercedes, Renault and Audi, while the best performer was Mitsubishi improving 100.4%.

Suzuki lost 20.7% showing the worst performance of the year followed by Citroen, Isuzu and Peugeout.
