World Car Manufacturers Ranking 2023. BYD Joins The Top 10

World Car Group Ranking in 2023 is dominated by Toyota (+4.6%) which maintains sa significant distance from the runner up Volkswagen (+10.9%). BYD jumps in 10th place, first among EVs specialists.

This report is produced extracting the registrations figures from the Global Database owned by our team, which track registrations i 159 countries, all brands, all models.

In this article we report on the global ranking about car manufacturers considered as group, aggregating sales done for each brand owned by the same group.

As for the previous years, in 2023 the leader was  Toyota Group  which sold 10.8 million vehicles (+4.6%), keeping a wide advantage over all others

The second was Volkswagen Group with 8.8 million sales (+10.9%) growing sharply in America (+16.6%) and Europe (+20.3%).

Hyundai-Kia ranks in 3rd spot reporting 7.1 million sales and a 3.9% increase in sales. This growth was sustained by surges in America (+7.9%) and Asia (+6.3%).

In 4th spot the Renault Nissan Alliance accumulates 6.9 million sales (+5.8%). The struggle in Asia (-15.3%) and Africa (-8.8%) is compensated by the growths in both Americas (+22.2%) and Europe (+18.0%).

Stellantis maintains the fifth place with 6.5 million sales (+3.2%). It lost substantial sales in Asia (-13.3%), while growth was reported in Europe (+12.5%).

Behind, General Motors with 6.2 million sales (+3.3%) followed by Honda Motor with 4.1 million new sales (+4.2%) and  Ford with 3.9 million units sold (+4.5%).

In 9th place Suzuki with 3.05 million sales was moderately down (-0.2%).

In 10th place ranks BYD -up 3 spots- with 2.6 million sales (+46.3%). The Chinese Group did better than Tesla (145h with  1.7 million sales, up 22.0%), while it is still selling many combustion vehicles.
