1991

Bosnian Car Market in 2025 shows impressive expansion. Full-year sales gained 11.8% showing a trend of steady growth through the months. Toyota posted largest gains among leading brands, up by 32.5% and moving closer to leader Skoda.

Economic Environment

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 2025 outlook points to GDP growth of 2.2 percent and average inflation of 3.8 percent, alongside a government balance of minus 2.0 percent of GDP, a current account balance of minus 4.0 percent of GDP, and net FDI inflows of about 2.0 percent of GDP. Growth has clearly cooled in 2025 compared with 2024, with real GDP rising 1.7 percent year on year in the first quarter and about 1.8 percent in the second quarter, with services the main driver. Domestic demand is still doing most of the work, as household consumption remains steady thanks to rising wages and remittances. Investment is also still growing, but its momentum has slowed even while staying in positive territory. The drag is coming from subdued external demand, compounded by domestic political instability and weaker consumer confidence, which are limiting overall expansion. Inflation has picked up sharply from its 2024 lows, reaching 4.2 percent year on year by September 2025, largely reflecting expansionary fiscal policy and faster wage growth.

Automotive Industry Trend and Outlook

Bosnia car sales have performed exceptionally well in recent years aside from a temporary dip in 2024. The trend persisted in 2025 as full-year sales reached 11,256 units, up by 11.8%.

Brand-wise, this year the leader Skoda (+13.1%) secured a market share of 22.6%, followed by Toyota (+32.5%), which gained 1 spot and a 10.6% share. Volkswagen -down 1 spot- with 10% ranked 3rd (+14%), followed by Renault -up 1 spot- in 4th (+20.1%) and Hyundai -down 1 spot- in 5th (+2.7%).

Looking at models, the Skoda Octavia was still the best seller (+29%), followed by the Hyundai Tucson (+33.1%) which climbed 2 spots and the Skoda Fabia falling 1 spot into 3rd (+0.9%).

Medium-Term Market Trend

The Bosnian car market has gradually recovered in recent years after the sharp contraction during the 2008–2009 crisis and the subsequent pandemic-related downturn. Following steady growth up to 2019, when sales reached 9,866 units, the market declined sharply in 2020 to 7,267 vehicles due to COVID-19.

Recovery began in 2021, with sales rising to 7,538 units (+11.9%), followed by continued growth in 2022 to 8,437 units (+11.9%). A strong rebound was recorded in 2023, when registrations surged to 10,912 units (+29.3%), exceeding pre-pandemic levels. In 2024, the market corrected moderately, with sales easing to 10,064 units (-7.8%), while remaining broadly stable at a historically solid level.
